Parents: Wondering what's
involved, now that you've joined AYSO?
That's what we want to try to answer here. Getting started with our program
does require a few basic items of equipment.
| Shin Guards: |
REQUIRED for ALL practices and games. If your child doesn't have
shin guards they are not allowed to participate...no exceptions to this
rule. |
| Soccer Ball: |
There are three different sizes of balls we use, depending on the age
group your child is playing in.
U6 and U8 age groups use a #3 size ball.
U10 and U12 age groups use a #4 size ball.
U14,
U16, and U19 age groups use a #5 size ball.
NOT having a ball of your own will not mean you can't participate in either
practices or games, but it is a good idea to get one for your child if
possible. |
| Soccer cleats: |
Not a necessity for the U6 age group, but
highly recommended for for U8 and above. There are differences in
cleats and it is important that you get the right kind. Most area stores
carry Soccer Cleats. If you do get a different kind they can still be used,
but the toe cleat MUST be removed. |
| Socks: |
Socks must be long enough to cover the
shin guards. Uniforms will come with one pair of socks. You may want to buy
additional pairs for practice. |
| Water: |
Soccer is a very thirsty sport. Lots of running is involved, so it is
very important that your child has a water bottle at each and every
practice/game. It will be important to have something to drink during
breaks. |
| Preparing to play: |
When you get your child ready for a game or practice they cannot wear
any kind of jewelry. No rings, necklaces, headbands, hair barrettes,
watches, bracelets, or earrings of any kind. Soft cloth or rubber bands are
OK for restraining long hair, but nothing made of metal or hard plastic will
pass the referee's inspection. |
